Starting Over is Hard

So after making the statement that we are going to totally start over and make a change I realized just how hard that is going to be. We have made commitments and already have so much in place that keeps us from totally starting over. Habits are hard to break.

I am hoping that small changes are the way to go. I am going to start with small goals and see how that goes. Doesn't the saying go, "The way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time."? Well, I am not sure who wants to eat an elephant but I will take the concept to heart.

So what are my goals for this week?

1. Complete the online Bible Study that I am going to start on Monday through Proverbs 31 Ministries.

2. Grade at least one set of papers a night. #teacherproblems

3. Find one new way to insert God into my girls lives.

Things I have done already to change and move in a positive direction.
1. Started listening to more Christian music, still love my country music though
2. Trying to see the positive in the day.
3. Got up an hour earlier today than everyone else and put my clothes in the washer! This is a huge win for me.

The sun is out and I am looking forward to the weekend!

The Start

Tonight is a new chapter in our families lives. I have decided that we are going to do things differently.

We are in the middle of what feels like quick sand. I love my family with all my heart, but we can't seem to get it right. It is not a fun place to be when we are home. There is a lot of yelling and crying and mumbling under the breath, etc. The picture is pretty dismal right now.

This is not what I had in mind when Chris and I started out 15 (now 17)  years ago. Who imagines a life where all you do is play catch up with everything, you are overweight, the house is not ever clean, and you can't seem to figure out the money.

Tonight is a wake up call for me and the need for change. It all seems so overwhelming to start but the need is great and we have to change if we want to survive and thrive as a family.

So where to start, Chris and I will sit down with the girls and figure out what makes us a family. What are the important things to us that no matter what is going on we will always stand by. So sort of like a family creed. What makes us the Akey Family and not any other family? I truly believe if we can start here we will move in the right direction.

Thus begins our journey to happy! I know it will not be easy or smooth but it is necessary. Here's to us and what we can become as a family!

UPDATE: Things are still the same but worse! We are going to make a change! If you are the praying kind please keep our process in your prayers!
